A problem that I have issues with when modelling in Sketch Up and rendering in 3D studio is faceting. This is an intrinsic  problem within Sketch Up especially when there are a lot of curves planes in a scene. Unless I model with lots of faces, which increases the poly count, the final output can be disappointing.

A quick way around this is use the Soften/Smooth Edges tool. I was shown this tip a few weeks ago and thought i would share it. The properties of this tool within Sketch UIp are carried over into 3D Studio which is what makes it so easy, especially when turbo smooth doesn’t work so well within imported Sketch Up models.

The screen shots above are the 4 simple steps that I use within my workflow when using this tool.
